Mrs. Hopkins, you stories to me have made a great impact in life because I just turned sixteen and I'm a junior in high school. These so=tories for me are a warning to watch out on what goes on with my surroundings because I dont know what the people I interact with may do. I began reading your stories in junior high that my friend wanted me to read CRANK so I was like OKAY because she gave some little details about the story and I liked it. I still haven't read GLASS but I am now reqding IMPULSE..If yyou have any type of advice i would Gladly appreciate it....ASTRID

And it helps cause i know addictions and what they do to families. Thank you for letting me know I'm not alone. Can't wait for Perfection! Thank you!

My friend had me read your books starting back in May. I finished Burned in one night. That one was personal to me because the friend that gave them to me grew up in a home of psychotic Mormons, and we were dating. I also read Impulse, and that one was also personal, because the same friend spent some time in the same position as the characters. I found the others on my own. Each book connects to me on a very personal level. Crank, Glass, and Fallout, my dad was a meth addict. Burned, one of my closest friends is stuck in a house of psychotic controlling Mormons. Impulse, one of my closest friends was in the same position in a mental hospital. Identical, My moms fiance molested me and I almost committed suicide. Tricks, I've runaway but never had to go that far. I love reading and you're books made me think. Thank you.

Your books are incrediable! Ellen Hopkins you are awesome! Awesome for writing about things most people wouldnt dare write about. Identicle and Impulse are my favorites. The Crank Saga is outstanding. but please do not let it end with Fallout. I feel there were too many things left unsaid in it and I want to know how it all goes. Will you please consider writing one more? Other than that I'm a dedicated reader and always will be!

Now I'll admit, teen fiction is usually not my cup of tea. I have been reading adult novels since I was young, and teen novels don't (usually) carry the depth that adult fiction (also usually) provides. Also, in teen fiction, that characters are usually people I can't connect with. The females have boy troubles, the boys struggle to uphold their fathers legacy, but, overall, their lives are happy ones. These plots left a dry, sickly taste in my mouth, a taste that whispered "you can't have this, you're not normal enough."

Impulse, the first book of yours I read, shot down all of my pre-conceived notions of teen fiction.

I easily connected with Vannessa and her...habits (I'll leave it at that). And when the end came, I cried when Connor threw himself off of the cliff. Impluse is my favorite book of yours, and one of my all time favorites.

So here I am, re-reading "Crank" for the 3rd time. I just finished "Identical," and plan on re-reading "Glass" next. And each time I re-read a verse, a new meaning blossoms before my eyes. Each time I re-read a sentance, I am once again reminded that I'm not alone.

Thank you Ellen. I will gladly have tea with you any time you wish.

Love you!

Mrs Hopkins,
Your books are truly amazing. i own all of them! I dont think i have ever been this excited to read a series in my life. Everytime i get the newest one i realize that i am not the only person that has to deal with a family member consumed by addction. You have truly changed my life. I hope to read more of your writings.

Thank You So Very Much,
Haley

So I just about pissed myself cause I read that you're starting to write Adult Verse now too! Just as I'm starting to enter the "adult" world myself. You seem to have always had perfect timing in my life. I remember the first time I picked up a book by you. It was Crank and I was at my public library. My 7th grade teacher had seriously just introduced us to poetry. I realized that I kind of liked it but wasn't sure. I read Crank in one sitting and it blew me away. I knew that day that I loved poetry. Since then I've actually published a few of my poems and I hope to one day get a book published myself. No one, including myself, could ever write as well as you but, I'm hoping to make a name for myself one day. Thank you for helping me see that despite what people say, I do have talent.

A loyal Fan,
Sarah Armstrong

Mrs. Hopkins, my name is Yvette and I am 25 years old. I live in Oklahoma City. I am in recovery from methamphetamine. Your books and Kristina's life are so familiar to me. I went to prison when i was 21 and 2 months pregnant. Reading your books makes me even that much more proud that i have been clean for nine months now. My son is only 3 and i know i cannot undo the damage but i know that children are resilient. And I am so thankful to see the point of view in fallout of the children. I am almost done with the book. You have reinforced EVERYTHING that i do everyday to remain clean and be a mom to my son. We both thank you for having our back. I love your work so much and will always be a dedicated follower! God Bless You and your family.

Ms. Hopkins,

Compared to other kids I know, I have had it easy. When you don't see people who's lives have taken a turn for the worse (for whatever reason) you don't realize what they're going through or see their opinions on life. Your books have been real eye-openers to me and I'm sure millions of others.I'd recommend these books to anyone- they're the most inspiring novels I've read. --SED

I first read your book "Identical" two years ago and it impacted my life so much. Today I finished the last page of the "Crank" trilogy and I feel lonely without the world of Kristina and her children. I've never read a book where I became so attached to the characters, I missed them when the book was finished. You are, by far, the most impressive author I've come to experience. I've shared your books with everybody I know, and I haven't had any bad feedback. I'm trying to decide which book I'm going to read next. I don't think any of them can top the "Crank" books, but I might be surprised! Because of you, I enjoy reading againa and have even been inspired to write some poetry too. I think I'll head to the book store now!

Ellen, you are honestly one of the best authors I've ever heard of! Your books are so easy to relate to! I just bought burned yesterday, and started it today. it took me about 1 minute to get hooked and I finished it in about 5 hours! Impulse is my personal favorite, the first of your books i've read! And it is so amazing how i instantly fell in love with it. It is the book of my life, I feel like it tells my story perfectly and I sympathized with the kids because I understand their feelings! Those are the only two books of yours i've read but I have no intention of stopping. I love you and your books! you're amazing and your writing is my favorite! I've put about 5 authors in my personal favorites and you're right in there! I love your books! please please please! NEVER STOP WRITING!

Amanda Jeanne said...

I absolutly love every single book that you've ever written. you've changed my outlook on books and life. If I never read your books I'd still be reading Jodi Picoult and Meg cCabot, authors that will never compare to your magnitude. I think that maybe you should write a sequel to Burned, show how Pattyn's life turns out. And please, never ever stop writing.

this might sound bad but it is not meant to be, your books have made me feel normal. i have read all of them about 9 times and honestly when i was going through horrible times they made me(Tricks especially) realize i could have fallen alot harder then i did. It made me feel like no matter what happened to me i could turn it around because i would never be in that situation. Thank you for these books. I am waiting for Perfect to hit the stores and i know it will be just as brilliant as the others.

THANK YOU. thank you for writing these books. as a former meth addict and a person suffering from bipolar disorder i must say you truley understand. youv described being bipolar in Impulse better then i ever could have. I cried when i read that book, not becuase i was sad but becuase it was so beautifully portrayed. thank you.

Im sorry to hear about Kristina and my prayers are with you and your family... I couldnt help but notice a lot of similarities between your famly and mine... from reading "Flirtin with the monster" it gave me a scense that things will get better with my family.. i want to thank you for writing your books. your books are real, i was raised in northern nevada, had addicted family members, and have walked down that path myself, and i can not tell you how amazing it was to read them and be able to see a little of myself in each one of your characters, especially in the crank series, not only have i been the child of an addict, i've been the addict myself, and see your writing at work everyday in my life and the lives of other close family members that struggle with it. when my children will read these when theyre capable of understanding, so will my little brothers. please keep writing, you save lives everyday with your books.

Mrs. Hopkins, or Ellen if you prefer,
Thank you so much for sharing your stories with us and opening your mind to us. Every book you write touches my heart, whether it be depressing or hopeful. I have had my share of drugs in my life thanks to my father. Long story short, he was not a part of my life for years unless he was trying to upset me. When I read your books, I no longer feel alone.
Thank you, for everything you have done to bring hope into my life.

Thank you SO much. I have sincerely enjoyed all of your books. But I do have a complaint: In your book "Tricks", Seth compares Indiana to Kansas (which is where I happen to live) in the sense of homophobia. You also commented that they "picket dead soldiers funerals." I respectfully ask that you please NOT compare us to Fred Phelps. And by the way, you have introduced me to a whole new world. In "Impulse", I cried my eyes out when Conner died. But you have shown me a new side of life, and I thank you very much for that.

Love,
Tori

I have read all of your books (including Fallout) and have reread over half of them just because I can not get enough of them. I started reading your books (crank) in 6th grade and have followed them sense. Your books left a huge inpact on me and i think of things so much differently now. The messages you put in the books are heartbreaking and im glad your addressing these problems teenagers(sense in the books they are mostly teenagers) face and give your readers the satisfaction of knowing they are not the only one going through these problems. Giving them the insight to concur their own monsters.
Please continuing writing, I love all of your books.

I am not quite sure where to even start. I have so much I want to say and thank you for, Ellen. Your books have touched me like no other book ever has, or probably ever will. Your writing is absolutely AMAZING! Saying that you are the best author is a bit of an understatement. It is sad to know that the Crank series is over. But I look forward to more new books! I have read all of your books and I just cant get enough. My personal favorite is Burned. Although most people dont like the ending, I loved it! Its reality. Thank you for everything! I hope you continue writing for a long long time, because I plan on reading for a long long time! C:

Thank you for the amazing books that you have put out and thank you in advance for the ones you will put out in the future that I'm sure will be just as amazing!

Ms. Hopkins: As all of your fans have said, thank you so much for writing your books. They are not only a great read, but also a spectacular view of teenage life from the other side. I have a friend who was particularly touched by "Burned" because her Mormon family is almost the same. She's dying to get away. I have identified with Connor from "Impulse." I have had a lot of struggles with my family and peers, and I gave in a couple of times, but with the counseling and hospitalization I received, I'm doing much better. I'm glad that you have given such inspirational novels to the reading community. Thank you again :)

Ellen Hopkins' writing inspired me to be a writer. I'd always liked writing short stories, but never thought they'd get to anyone. But last summer, after reading Burned, I contacted a publishing agency and sent in a manuscript. The way Hopkins writes, made me feel like I was in the story. She put a movie in my head, and made it play, and replay and replay. It was a movie I never got tired of watching. I've read all her books and can't wait for Perfect to be out. Her words jumped out at me, and smacked me in the face, telling me to get off my ass and work for what I want. Her stories made me realize how good my life was, and how lucky I am. I couldn't thank her enough, but when I'm a novelist, her name, will definitely be in every single dedication, in hopes that she'll read something I've done, and maybe, just maybe, it would mean something to her. She showed me that there are multiple sides to every story, and not everyone is as okay as they seem in person. Thank you, so much.

I own all of your books and just want you to know I love every single one of them. I cant wait for perfect to come out. Also your books have changed some of my views completly. I think your most horrible book is burned and tricks. I dont mean there bad but I mean like what happens in the books. It just disgusts me how people can act like this to there own kids. (in your books like in burned identical tricks the parents were horrible)
I wanted to rip my hair out when I read identical. It made me sad/mad about what happened to the girl and what her own DAD did to her when she was a little kid.
I want you too know I think you writing these books are actually good for people teaching them whats out there, the dangers, people, etc.
Keep writing :)

Thank you Mrs. Hopkins for showing me what can happen in the real world. The first book of yours I read was Burned. I was glued to it all day and finish ruffly around 1:oo am. Since I have dived into nearly all of your books and tried to buy them. i've had no luck, maybe it's 'cause i live in New Zealand. I have enjoyed reading your books so much, i've even got my sister reading them and have begged my friends. I would love to read more of your books and one day be a great author like you. Good luck in future novels.

YOur books show me that drugs are not the right choice, they showed me what would happen if I decided to do them. Your books really help me. Dont stop writeing, your makeing a difference (: Thank you so much for your help. (:

hi, Honestly, I've only read one and a half of your works (burned and the beginning of crank) but on your site, I reread your poems religiously all the time. They're so beautiful and honest, more honest then I'll ever be. I never read poems like yours before which is odviously a good thing. Even in your books the words speak so vividly and just so________(blank space), i just don't have the words to describe your pieces. Even just from reading a little bit of your work I've been hooked in and brought to a new perspective of life. I haven't had a lot of free time to read all your books but i know I'm dedicated enough to make sure I do.
Thank you so much.

I want to start by saying that your books are the reason I read again, the reason I write again, and the reason I've realized that through darkness comes light. I first read Crank,of course, and when I found out there was a sequel,I bought Glass, which turned into Fallout, then Impulse, and I'm bled dry but have Identical,Tricks, and Burned waiting on me! And now I hear you have Perfect coming out later this year.Gosh!Your writing style has me hooked. It's different, new, gripping, and pretty freaking awesome! If you ever stop writing,I'll be so sad, but, hey,I think your books you've got so far will last, literally,a lifetime among us young adults :)
Thanks for the hope :)

Hi Ellen I just wanted to let you know that I am writing a character study based off your work I thought I might like to share it with you =D

“Executions are supposed to be civil,”
According to Moore,
and he would know best.
His 12 great something or other
grandfather, became a head shorter
for disagreeing with a king
the old fashion way.
An axe hacking at your neck.

There have been other creative ways,
to put a man to death.
Send electric currents
through his body.
Throw him against a wall
and a hail of bullets will do the trick.
Commonly a criminal is strapped down
and poison runs through their veins.

But these methods were made to make death,
somewhat painless to the victim.
Though some of these methods don’t sound as so,
quick is a better word to describe it.

My execution neither quick or is it painless.
Though the process will kill me
in one quick succession,
it’s one of many others like this.
It stared hours ago,
With some breaks in between.
Executions are constant.
No such thing as breaks right?

But then again considering the man who is
playing the role of my executioner,
I really don’t believe
I am one bit surprised.
My executioner’s a sadist.
He wants me to suffer as I am defeated.
But he doesn’t know….

I won’t give him the satisfaction.

As death looms closer,
I am content with the fact
that I lost this battle.

For I looked at this fight
like many others I fought
as a soldier…..

hope you enjoyed I am having fun with this =D

Mrs. Hopkins, your books have impacted me greatly, I fortunately have never had anything terrible like in your stories happen to me. I started reading crank when i was a freshmen in highschool and was immediatly addicted to your writing, i needed more. Thanks to you I got addicted to books, not drugs, nor sex, but literature. I am socially akward so i dont have many friends, but i find plenty of company when i open one of your books, no matter how many times i have read them. Tricks is my favorite out of them all besides your ever famous crank serious. I just found out Perfect's release date and am so excited. I think my friends are going to shake me back to sanity if i talk about it anymore. Thank you so much for being there through these books. Im sure i speak for alot of teens when saying that.

Your forever devoted reader,
Jessica

These books have introduced me to new things.. and taught me a lot about stuff that i never really knew about. I have always known about the drugs, the sex, the human trafficing, but, the way you write, it just makes you want to have so much more knowlege about it. Just the way you format your books, makes me think that i have read a lot in a short amount of time, just because the pages are so short. I love that(: The latest book that i have read, it Fallout. You havent dissapointed me yet! (: keep up the good work(: P.S. I cannot wait until Perfect comes out! (:

Mrs. Ellen Hopkins,

Your books are simply awe-inspiring. I, myself am considering the career of an author. I must say that the time and dedication that you've put into all of your novels; Crank, Glass, Tricks, Identical, etc. have truly, immensely inspired yet another human being looking to find their place in the world, and for that, I am thankful to have found "Crank" by chance, which in turn lead to my reading "Glass", and then "Tricks". I plan to read "Impulse" next. I'm positive that it will be just as stupendous as the three listed before.

Thank you, for following through on all of the struggles that it has taken to write, publish, etc. You have truly changed my life.

I hope to one day own all of your books and share them with the people in my life and maybe later in life, pass them down to my children.

Keep writing and I'll keep reading.

Wow. That's the feeling I am left with after reading these books. I first picked up Crank from a friends house and was hooked. I had finished the entire series twice in three weeks! And was ready for round 3. You have truly inspired me. I now write many short stories and poems of my own. Your books got me through the tougher of times, and the better days.
I was speechless with Fallout. It really hit home with some stuff going on in my life, and it helped me to stand up to them so I didn't have to be like those sad children torn and broken all because of one persons actions. Now that person is getting help before it's too late. your books are mesmerizing, and I cannot put them down once I've started. Please never stop writing, keep those free verse books flowing, and keep the spirits of people lifted. You are a wonderful writer, and I will continue to read all your new poems, and books as they are released.
Thank you so much Ellen Hopkins. Your books will be passed on through the generations, and will make a difference in many peoples lives. Truly inspiring.

Ellen, your books have an emotional impact on me like no other books do. I can honestly relate to the characters that you create, and each and every one of your books make me see life in a whole new way. Thank you for being brave enough to write about these topics!

Mrs. Hopkins, thank you for your books. I just finished Tricks and these stories broke my heart. The story of Eden was so incredible to me and makes me appreciate the love I share. Your books make me appreciate my life in every aspect. Your words mean so much to so many people and I am so glad that so many of them can find hope in your words. I honestly can't say I have ever felt so much compassion towards a set of books but I love them all. If everyone in the world would read your books the world would be a better place and allow hope for the hopeless and gratefulness to the ungrateful.
Thank you so much,
Hailey

First I want to start off by saying that I have read many books, I've always been a huge reader, but I had never read anything like your books until last summer. My best friend found your book Crank in our local library and after she read it, she told me how great it was, she made it sound so great that I just had to read it for myself, Iwas amazed at the emotion put into your book, and after that I decided to read Glass, then Identical, and before i knew it, I had read all of read books, and I cant wait for your new book Perfect to come out, it sounds amazing! Thank you for writing all of your amazing books, you are definatly my all time favorite author ! - Savannah

I have never been one to read books fast, but with your books I can. When I pick one up, I cannot stop reading it. I really don't want them to end because then I have to wait for the new ones. I have read each one, reread them, and shared them with my friends. Currently I have almost each of my books lent to someone. Your books are incredible and I cannot wait for Perfect to be released!

Mrs Ellen Hopkins, I am a teen who went through an addiction. I was addicted to cocaine for almost 2 years. It is not sommething I am proud of but something I have overcome and I am proud of being clean for over 3 years now. I just recently got introduced to your books by a dear friend of mine and I have barely been able to put them down. I anticipate the release of Prefect. I just really want to say thank you. Your books are amazing and I think to overcome what you and your family has, well that's just wonderful. I can't wait to see what comes next from you. Thank you again. =]

I read your book Crank, and was amazed by it. I can relate to Kristina so much. Trying to be the perfect daughter. Be a goodie two shoes. Do everything right.. Shortly after starting the book Glass(now on page 282) I started living Kristina's life. I started doing coke. And I've found my Trey. He's a drugdealer. I'm not as in deep as she is, and I hope I don't go over the edge.

Ellen, not only are you an amazing author but as you write, you give your characters life. You write in such a way that each and every reader can find a part of themselves in one or more of your characters. I am a recently recovered addict. Never touched the "monster" but I shot up heroin every single day for 2 years. Although I read your books as they came out, I didn't want to admit that the addiction had taken over my life just as you showed in your novels. I had to learn on my own. I have been clean for two months now and have never felt better about. Thank you for hopefully opening the eyes of many about how addiction can take hold of your life and send it into a downward spiral into hell.

God Bless you!

Dear E. Hopkins,
I think you should know that your books are the only ones I can read more than once. They're just that amazing. I always feel intensely connected to every character in a way I don't believe any other author has made me feel. I'm an aspiring writer, and I want you to know that your books have given me total inspiration to do what I love, and they've taught me how to do it better. If I had a chance to meet anyone, I'd pick you, because I think your stories, and your daughter's stories would be that much more fascinating orally. Thank you for everything you've done for me, your writing has been my escape, just as I'm sure it has been yours.

I have just read Fallout. Your last one of the series Crank, I am so happy the way it ended out. I can't wait to read all of your other books. THe way you put your books together, i've never seen anythiing like it and its amazing. Amazingly written. During the books i've read (Crank, Glass, and Fallout), i actually felt like i knew the people in the books. Like i was with them and walking side by side with the characters. There was one part of Fallout where Summer was doing something and i was like i need to tell Kristina hahah. You really need to consider talking to a director about making them in =to a movie. i bet they would be as faamous as twilight. bc the books Stephanie Meyers write are amazing but im pretty sure yours are better

i just wanted to say thankyou from the very bottom of my heart...
i was addicted to Crank when i was 15 and my mother read your book and thought of me then she looked up meth users and their symptoms and withdrawls and she connected the dots. I stayed in rehab for a year and i've been clean for five months. I started reading your books and i just wanted to say thankyou for turning my life around. I feel like i owe you so much. You literally saved my life. God bless you.

I never was into reading when i was younger until i found your book Crank. I've read it over a hundred times and everytime it gets better. The same goes for Burned, Impulse, Glass, and Identical. Sadly i have not been able to find Tricks anywhere so i am just starting Fallout. I can't wait for the books coming out in the future. You are and always will be my favorite author. You have changed the way i look at life and i thank you for that!

My teacher in my GED class required us to read and she had your book in her collection. I mainly only picked it up because it was called crank, and well, I was going through a time with cocaine. I only read it for twenty minutes before class was over but I begged the teacher to take it home. Reluctantly she did and I brought it back finished the next day. 5 years later (and clean!) I proudly own every book you have ever written. You are a very amazing artist and I can not wait for your next book. Thank you for sharing your talent and your inspirational stories.

Dear Mrs. Hopkins or Ellen, as you shall like to be called. I would like to start off that it would be amazing if you read this comment. I know I'm one of the million fans out there, but still :-)
Ok, so I've read Crank and Glass, and I'm currently reading Fallout just for fun. I have all your books checked out from the library(Impulse, Identical, Tricks, and Burned). I can't wait till Perfect! So far, Crank and Glass have been amazing. In Crank, I realize that drugs are no acception as to 'get away' from reality. I learned to never let your impulses force you to do something you never thought of doing, because sooner or later you will regret it. In Glass, I was shocked. I never would of thought Kristina wouldn't give 1 dime about her baby. I mean, I get that she needs crank, ice, glass, or crystal meth, but you should always make time for your child. It's just, unacceptable. And then steal? Why would you steal, when you know its wrong and it can lead to prison, so forget about jail time. I kinda believe that her mom wouldn't lov eher anymore after everything that she's done but I know that somewhere in Marie's heart, there's a little space where the love is Kristina's. After all, she is her mother.
Like I said, I'm currently reading Fallout, and I can't belive anything! SHE HAS FIVE CHILDREN? What a sl*t! And she said she will never be a whore, didn't she? I'm still a bit confused because I don't know if she died according to the drug or if she's still in prison, but I guess I'll have to continue reading in order to find out!
Like always, your the best author there is in the world that has opened my eyes and showed me visually what drugs can do to you! Keep writing, and I'll always be here for you even though you probably don't know. By the way, you've really inspired me! I don't know any other writer that has poured there life out in a book, and I think you did that. Thanks for letting us know what happened to your family due to drugs, and now I know to NEVER EVER do drugs! But I'm not the one with the pencil who's writing my story, God is and I only hope that he knows what he's doing.
Forever your fan, and reader.

I dont even have words too say about these extrodinary books you have created. Every one tells a liget story about ones life, and shows how horrifying this world can become. Out of everyone one i have read, it creates another view of life in my eyes. It really shows me how imperfect we are, and how temptations can push someone so hard that theres no becoming the same again. These books even have reflected my lifes story, and its almost become a comfort knowing im not alone in my journeys. I cannot give enough thank you's for what you have done for me. You have honestly changed me inside, your books are beyond wonderful. They are completely life changing. No author ive ever seen or read has the over all guts to reveal the worlds secrets hidden behind, like all other authors just try to cover up. you imbrace the worlds faults in such a truthfull manner. At 13, i most defently envy you Ellen. Thank you ever so much. haylee lewis:)

I don't want to sound all sappy, so I'll leave it to saying, well done.

I never became attached to an author until I discovered you. Every time I read one of your books I become so attached to each character. Never have I picked up a book and felt so much emotion with just the first few pages. It was as if I could just jump inside the book and become apart of it all. It's such an amazing experience, one I'll never forget. So thank you.

Whenever I find something I like, I don't ever want to let it go. You're books are like that for me. I don't know how you do it. Well, talent of course. But, I never thought in my life that someone could write down words and make you feel as if it were your own life that you were reading, even if it sounded nothing like you. You could feel everything they felt, without even trying. It's like you could see everything play out in front of your eyes. But not like a movie. Like you were there. Like YOU were the one experiencing it.

I will always appreciate the books written by Ellen Hopkins sitting on the top of my bookshelf. I hope that you keep writing for as long as life lets you. You will always be a gift to my heart for as long as I live.

Sincerely,
Tonya Russell

Ellen, you are an amazing writer. Your books hooked me around the middle of my sophomore year. I was and still am going through a rough time. It was an escape more so to be able to read about other teens going through similar things that I am. I love your books SO SO much. You're an amazing person. I'll never understand how you can write with so vivid detail and get things so, down to the key of what many teenagers are going through. I just found out literally, 5 minutes ago that Kristina and her son "Hunter" are real people. I never knew that which, I guess in a round about twisted way, makes me feel better. Not because real people deal with that, but because it shows that so many people have all these issues, and it's really intriguing to know this actually happened to someone. You're my favorite author. I'm currently reading "Identical". I've already read all your other books and currently anticipating your upcoming ones. I'm very much looking forward to "Triangles". It will be very interesting to see things through an adults eyes in a way teens can understand and be able to read. I honestly, don't want them to make movies out of your books. It takes away the meaningfulness of the books when people do that. That's just my opinion. Anyway, thank you for writing. You've changed my life in so many ways believe it or not. Keep writing and remember, so many people are behind you and look forward to many more books.

Thanks SO much,
Amber

My sophomore year in high school I was skimming the library for a good read. I saw a large bright red book. The title was Impulse and the font was strange. Any book with such an interesting appearance must be interesting, right? I checked it out and within a couple pages, I was hooked. I have read all of the books by Ellen Hopkins now and will proudly announce that she is my all time favorite author. I recommend these books to everyone and I'm always thanked for it because now their hooked too.

I've scanned your comments and see that many people feel the same way about your books that I do. Your books are raw, riveting and pure. I'm glad a writer has finally had the courage to stop filtering the real world. I read your books for the beautiful style, incredible stories and most importantly to read about characters that have a hint of me in each one. Impulse in particular was the first book I really related to because I struggled with suicidal thoughts because I'm gay (lesbian same difference) so thank you for giving me a voice, be it a prettier voice than my own.

Mrs. Hopkins, you have changed my life. I'm not just saying that. When I read Crank, it pulled me in. It took me into the story and I couldn't put it down. When I did, it was almost painful. I would pick the book up again and be engulfed into a different world where I was the character. You're books are different from other that I have read, I think it's because your characters are usually young adults. Which makes it easier for people like me to relate to. It's what I love about all of your works, even though I may never have gone through what one of the characters has gone through, I can still compare and feel how they feel. The one book that I related to the most was Impulse, it's because I could relate to Vanessa so well. I won't put why, because if people or you read this, they should already know why. You've become my favorite author of all time. That's not an under or over-statement. It's the truth. You're the reason that I've changed and helped people see the light. Because the light is there, most people can't see it. I couldn't see it until I started reading your books. I'm excited for Perfect to come out, because I know it's going to be a great one. No denying that. So thank you so much Mrs. Hopkins, for helping me with my struggles. There is no way that I could thank you enough.

Thank you again,

Mrs. Hopkins,
Your writing is amazing. Your books have impacted me in many ways. I can relate to all of the characters in Impluse in many ways, and I have learned from all of the other characters in every book. Your books have made me realize that no matter how hard things get, i can choose to find a way out of it and get help, or take the other route and continue to do things such as cutting, drinking, and smoking. Your writing has also inspired me to write poetry, and what better way than to write about my feelings or doing something. For example, cutting, instead of actually doing it i write about what might have happened if i did do it, and i feel much better. Thank you so much Mrs. Hopkins. I cannot wait to read Perfect when it comes out in Sept.

Thank you so very much,

my 20 year old daughter just read 5 of your books in a month: crank, glass, fall-out, burned, and last was identical...did any of your characters try to commit suicide using an epipen? after finishing Identical, my daughter tried to kill herself with an overdose of midol and stabbing her chest with an epipen....she often told me about what she was reading and i know your themes deal with dark and difficult subjects....can teens really handle the content?
My 20 yr old daughter did not handle your books well, even though she was quite addicted to reading them morning noon and night. She is currently in the hospital and i did not let her take your book Impulse with her...
did you ever describe a character using an epipen in a suicide attempt? Why do you think your books are so popular with young readers? please answer me, Donna Jean

Ellen,
Its hard to read a book and face the words of my own life. I take comfort in your books, I look at them as a daily reminder that i'm not the only one who is hiding scars and tuning out memories. I still find myself locked away from the world and only let few in. I wonder if the people whose stories you share also feel the same as me. Being surrounded by people, having them claim to be your best friend and they know you best, when really what they know only scratches the top of my surface...

I want to thank you. You are my inspiration and your books a true part of who I was and am.

Ellen Hopkins has helped me realize that the way I used to deal with my problems, by cutting and suicide attempts, was not the way to go, and in showing me this through her writing has saved my life. Impulse was the first book I read and I absoulutley can NOT get enough of her writing. I have related to each and every book on a personal level. In reading all of her books, each one has had a different impact on my life and makes me realize that the decisions I make now will always follow me, haunt me, make me, or break me. She is my favorite author and when I ran out of books to read I had no idea what to do! I hope that someday my writing can be as big of an impact on someones life as Ellen has done for me. You are truly an inspiration Mrs. Hopkins!
Thank you so much and PLEASE continue on with your career you will always have supporters!

It is because of your books that I have the strength and outlook on life that I do now. I can genuinely say your books are unbelievable and I will forever be a fan. I look forwatd to reading all your books to come and hope you continue to create the beautiful masterpieces you have already begun.

Thank you for instilling power, strength and the ability to see beauty in myself.

Dear Mrs. Hopkins...I was never much of a reader and I'm still not but until my friend Hannah told me I should read Impulse & then she let me borrow it...by the first, couple or so pages I just thought I NEED to read all your other books. I cant believe conner killed himself and Tony & Vanessa falling in love? i was confused. I felt like i was a part of it. no matter, that book was the best book i've ever read in my whole entire life....so far. Thank you for writing these books so teens like me can enjoy them XD!!!!!!!!!!

Mrs. Hopkins,
I am sure that you get a lot of fans saying many things, and I am also sure all those fans mean them. I am just one fan in many, but I do hope my words really reach your ears. Your books are nothing less then unbelievable. I am a very young writer who hopes that one day my dreams will become reality, and really that is it. I face a lot of things everyday that aren't as dramatic as the things that happen to the people in your books... but they hit me hard, and reading your books teaches me more about life then writing, but it also teaches me how to write about life.

I used to write poetry differently... in a way I censored things... but after reading your books and some pages on your website I realize poetry is not meant to be censored, or rhymed... it is just meant to be SAID.

Thanks.
That's all.

I first saw the book CRANK in my schools library, and to be honest, the simplicity and boldness of the cover alone brought me in. I picked it up and read a few pages, immediately wanting more. I had never willingly borrowed a book out of the library before. I went home and could not put it down! Ever since, I have been hooked to your novels. I anticipate every new novel and frequently check the site for new updates. I think my favourite, overall, is IDENTICAL. Your writing style drags me in and makes me keep reading and reading for hours! Looking forward to reading some more from you!
Keep on writing, you are fantastic a truly an amazingly creative writer. Very inspiring!! :)

You are by far the best author on earth..I've read ALL of your books, & now waiting in suspense to read your new one 'Perfect' to come out :)..I love the way you write in such a poetic form. Your books are deffinately what EVERYONE should be reading no matter what age. Your books 'Crank' & 'Glass' show how much life can go down the drain by the choices one makes. All of your books show the REALITY on life & just how life REALLY happens. It's not just some dumb old fairy tale. Anyway, i envy you. ha :) Don't stop writing :) --Victoria Lopez/Cashion High School

I am so lucky to have you come to my school. Lucky that everything in my life landed me here. Reading a million words at my new school to get away from the anxiety and depression, which means I get to have breakfast with you. (along with the others who read a million words too of course.) I don't know what it will be like meeting you. I tend to want to spill my life story but even if you coming to my school has nothing to do with personal desires, the English teachers have almost all your books and they tell us to read them and get to know you. I read Identical first and that was a miracle. I have suffered from sexual abuse and I learned i my self might have a split personality due to childhood trauma but I believe it's mild. Either way your books enlightened me. I must face my depression so that I won't no longer have fear and keep bottling things up. Once you start it's hard to stop because the frustration that no one understands you bums you out whichs means more to bottle up. For my family and friends it's like started a movie at the climax. So much you missed out on and don't understand. I guess that's why I tend to want someone to care about me and just listen without me asking for that because doing that makes it all go away to where my courage and the bad and good memories hide.
one favor I hope you do for me is read The Celestine Prophecy. It gave me hope. A reason to heal my self. And reading your LiveJournal. The comments. Reading that adults are out there putting faith into young folks like me. That we can put more heaven on earth. It's my dream to learn Reiki but more to simply heal no matter how I do it. One day I'm going to meet awesome people like you and I want to be ready and not vulnerable like I am now.
I don't know what help this does for you. I guess it's selfish that I'm probably writing because my mind is easier to access when I'm typing (gosh I with I knew why. I am extremely pressure sensitive but how did that happen?) but I don't know what you think. Maybe like me, it's really comforting hearing someone encourages peace, true love (as Thich Nhat Hanh taught me), mindfulness. and selflessness.
But anyway, I really just wanted to send my energy of gratitude of you and your will of selflessness for young adults like me.
i hope you don't make this awkward if you read this before i meet you and point me out when we meet. because I truly avoid attention. I fear panic attacks and attacks from others. if it helps you understand, if it weren't for my family I would hide from civilization and meditate until I'm emotionally and mentally healed. I tend to hold my breathe and my body (for me) severely tenses up.
much love, kari / big fan

I Even Remember 7:30 Medication Time && Mr. Mike Who Was The Guy That Talked During Group Session. Im 17 And I Havent Been Back There For Almost 8 Months. But I Have A Feeling Im Going To Be There Again Pretty Soon. After Reading Your Book Though, Ive Thought Longer About What To Do. I'll start off with the fact that I'm absolutely in love eith your books. I've read every single one, and I'm eagerly awaiting Perfect that comes out in September. But what is so great about these books is how real they are. I too had a battle with drugs that nearly tore away everything I had worked to acheive. During my recovery and fight back, I read Crank, and I was instantly hooked. It was your booksthat gave me the strength to know that there was someone else out there, and that my choices affected everyone around me. So thank you so much.

Your book Fallout has changed my life. I have recently bought it and have read it over ten times. You have changed my life. I can relate to all three of Autumn's, Hunter's, and Summer's stories. They all fit me perfectly in how I've been affected by my father's abuse of drugs.
He didn't use meth, thank god, but he's used marijuana and was a former alcoholic. He might be an alcoholic still. I'm unsure. He's so far out of it I'm not sure.
Thank you for these books, I tear up and get goosebumps whenever I read fallout.

Ellen, your books are incredible. I was introduced to you novels through a Young Adult Literature class that I took in High School and they helped me find joy in reading. When I read Impulse, I felt like the characters in the novel were speaking directly to me. I went through a similar experience as the characters and every time I read Impulse it brings me back to that place. When I have negative thoughts, I open Impulse and through the characters I find the strength to keep going. I used to view reading as a chore. Now that I am in college, I pick up one of your novels to escape from the boring science texts I read for class. If it wasn't for your writing, I would never pick up any reading material that isn't assigned for class.

Thanks,

Well I started reading the first book when it came out in 2004, Crank and I have just been attatched to all of Ellen's books ever since. Having struggled with my own teen trama, these books really helped cope with life and find something to relate to. I just finished fallout and was amazed at this depressing but amazing journy ellen took us through with Kristinas life. I am so sad this is the last book of the triligy but am looking forward to the next two books she has comming out this year! These books have really changed my life and opened my eyes, I never knew how horribly drugs tear apart families. God bless and I will always be an Ellen Hopkins reader.

I once had a best friend, a friend who I'd spend countless hours doing absolutely nothing special with but that nothing meant everything.
He was a fun guy, always up for adventures, no matter how risky or silly they were. But one day, it was too much.
My friend begin to sink deep into this thing called addiction. He become a druggie and an alcoholic, and this was all before he was even an adult.I began to resent him, hate him for what he was doing. If I tried to help, it only made him want to do it more.
Then one day I came across Crank, and I tore through it. The book was like a little insight into my friend's life, and for once, I was feeling the way he was. He wasn't doing this to hurt anyone...it was just the grasp of drugs that was too strong, and I understood he was just too weak to get out.
He's doing better these days, he's managed to get help that I'd never be able to provide. But thanks so much for your book Mrs. Hopkins. It made me realize that we shouldn't judge an addict from the beginning, because there can be so much more behind that fake smile.Keep writing, your books are fantastic.

Thank you so very much. I must tell you Ms. Ellen Hopkins, if someone hasn't told you this yet, you are amazing. When you write I feel I am reading the story of somone's real life, like that specific character is out there in the world somewhere and I have to safe them. You have an exceptional gift and talent, sometimes I forget that this is "fiction".When you write you become the character, I have never in my 17 years of life encountered that type of techinque, and I am gracious that I have. The first book I read of yours was Identical, how I could relate to that story from so many dimensions, I literally cried at the end; how powerful each word sentence and paragraph. After, my encounterment with Identical I just couldn't help myself but to read all of your books... at this very moment I have read all of your books I am now reading fallout...Thank you for writing all of your books especially Tricks and Identical ... and thankyou for writing for the world informing them about the troubles of the world ... most people try to cover it up and act as if those problems are amongst our world but not you because you are special... you know when people say " God put us on the world for a reason" , well God put you on this world to enlighten others...

THANKYOU SOOOOOOO MUCH FOR ALL YOU DO AND ALL YOU ARE

I appreciate all ghat you write. Normally reading is difficult for me. Your books however inspire me I have always wanted to be able to write and be able to inspire teenagers and young adults by not hiding the truths of the real world. You open up the communication for topics that are often taboo. I was upset when I missed your apperence at my local Barnes and Noble. There is so much I wanted to ask and just meet the one person who has ever inspired me to just sit and read all of your books I have read in one day. You are by far my favorite author, thank you for all your books and I can not wait for Perfect.

Ellen Hopkins is absolutely the best author I have ever read a book from. She made me forget the author of twilights name and I was in love with the idea of Edward Cullen.. lol
But anyways. Ellen Hopkins reaches out to teens and makes them feel like someone understands them. She isn't the perfect author. No one is perfect.. But hey.. Shes pretty darn close<3

So much has happened to me through the 15 years Iv'e been alive, I was born a mistake to a teenage mother, only 16 and my father walked out on us and has been in and out of my life since I was three years old and that is enough to hurt anyone. I accedently came across your book "Impulse" early last summer (2010) at Books a Million, by accedent..which I think it was fate because it applied to my life in many ways. I cut, took pills, burned my skin, punched walls, and even tried committing suicide, before I found it, so you can kind of tell how it did apply to me, and even though I didn't stop as soon as I finsihed the book it still made a major impact on my life. As soon as I finished "Impulse" I moved to "Crank" "Glass" & "Fallout" which I just recently finished and those also meant a lot to me. Kristina and her addiction leaned torward me doing and smoking marijauna, and ciggerettes. Her children, ecspecailly Hunter, being a teenage accedent as well, opened my eyes and helped me understand that I'm not the only one who goes through not having a good relationship with my mom and having no father around. I can't wait to start reading more of your books, I'm currently reading identical and Burned is next on my list because I too, have gone though sexual abuse when I was a little girl. Ellen every single one of your books that I have read so far has touched my life or meant something to me in some way and I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart because you opened my eyes. I have been getting help for my depression but you played a major roll in getting that help. I don't cut, or swallow pills, or burn myself, or think of suicide, or smoke weed and ciggerettes anymore, halfway thanks to YOU and because of your brilliant way of putting real teenage issues onto paper, intresting enough for young people, like me to pick up and relate to, & fall in love with. So again, thank you so much. Please keep up the wonderful work, you have saved so many (and not just teenagers) lives. Love, Ashley.

Ms. Hopkins,
I just wanted to say thank you. You're one of the greatest authors. I own every one of your books and waiting on "Perfect" to add to my collection. I connect with your books in a personal manner. My sister/best friend has been down the road in some of your books so due to that I have seen a lot of the stuff you have written about. I myself have also been through some of the things. I hope you continue to write your books. I work at a girls juvenile facility and hear the girls tell their stories and I think of your books. We have some of your books at work and I think its great that the girls get the chance to read your work and I beleive it helps them to change the way they want to live when they get to leave the facility. Once again, thank you some much for all your great work and hope to see much more of it in the future.

Yours Truely,
Mrs. B.C.

I have become a huge fan over the last couple years. I have everything from Crank on up and am halfway through Fallout...Tricks is next. I look forward to both Perfect and Triangles as well. Your way of writing poetic verse has deeply inspired me. I have written poetry for the better part of 20 years, yet had never seen it written as you have done. I have since written my own story, one still in progress but I have gotten many great critiques on it. Thank you, for the inspiration and the amazing books to read as well.

Thank you for amazing reads over the years.

Thank you so much for sharing you and your family's story. It means a lot to me to be able to read such personal things and to be not only touched but inspired. Your books not only open my eyes to others struggles and doing my best to understand and help it really opened my eyes to appreciate my life and all the wonderful things I have in it. One thing very important to me is that if you ever come to a location near me in Tulsa,OK I really want to meet you, shake your hand, and thank you in person for your wonderful words, your amazing courage, and your support to teens who struggle with addiction.
Thank you,

I just want to say that i discovered your books when i was in grade 9. I first read burned and thought the style it was written in was very intrigueing. when i was in grade 10 i was on crutches for a very long time and where did i go to spend my time? the library. I started reading crank and was very touched and inspired by your writing, now i get bored reading just regular books. I love your style, maybe because i wanted to be a poet growing up or maybe because your books touch on such contraversial issues. I can't wait to read your more recent novels!

Dear Mrs. Hopkins,

your books have impacted my life in a way you can never imagine. when i read Crank, Glass, or Fallout, i think of how alike my Aunt and Kristina are. my Aunt has three children and isnt even 22 yet. i love all of your books and i do hope you keep writing and fast, because i cant wait for the books that follow Impulse and Burned. i am working of getting all of your books, but my eReader is punishing me for some reason, haha. your books do change people and how they look at things, it certainly changed me, changed me completly, and its crazy how im such a bookworm and only your books can do that! i cant wait untill some movie people (director's) come your way and make a movie of any of your books!! any one of yours will certainly changed the whole nation!! hopefully that will come true...

always your reader

Ellen Hopkins I have just began reading your books. I am not much of a reader, but as soon as I saw your book, Crank, and opened it up and read it I knew I just had to find more of your books. You are a great author and you have taught me a lot with just reading the book, Crank. It has touched me in a way I cannot explain. I just started reading, Burned, and I realized that you wrote two other book series for Crank. I love your writing and you are a great author. I can't wait to read more of your books. Thank you.

Hands down, the crank series was the best books I've ever read. Ironic that I said hands down, because literally I could not take my hands off these books. They have inspired me to look at other people's point of views.

I think the saddest thing about Kristina is how she knew what she was doing when she first did meth. How, she knew the lack of self control was what kept her coming back. But, that is what makes these books so very powerful as well. It's powerful in a twisted kind of way.

I hope you keep going through life inspiring others like you have inspired me. -Hannah.

wow...thats all i can say really. Crank was the first book you wrote that i read and i have followed you since. All of your books have touched me in a way i just cant explain. Im excited about perfect and know it will be great. when i read your writing it hard to put the book down. you are my alltime favorite :)

i could literally go on for days about how much i love your books. i started reading your books around a year and a half ago, and i have re read them many times since. you sucked me in with kristina's story in crank and glass, and her kids story in fallout. i bawled my eyes out at the end of impulse when connor hurled himself off the cliff, but i love that you had tony and vanessa get together. the ending of burned sent me for a loop, especially after ethan died. i felt like i could feel pattyn's pain when she lost both him and the baby, something i have never been able to say about another book. i loved tricks because you tackled a very difficult subject that most authors wouldnt touch, and i admire you greatly for that. lastly, my personal favorite is identical. the ending of that book. i reread it so many times because i just couldnt believe it!

i cannot wait until perfection comes out! i hope you keep writing more novels because the way you write is beautiful. <3
