Thank you so much Mrs. Hopkins (Ellen, if you will). You have impacted my life with all of your books, Impulse, Crank, Glass, Tricks, Burned, and last but not least Identical. These books have shown me a new side to life. They -- you -- have showed me that no matter the past, you can do whatever you wish. I read all these books a million times and I wish for enough money to buy them all. You are my favorite author, and I thank you. You've changed my life and the way I look at it forever.

Thank you so, so much,
Kira

I have to completely agree with the person who posted above me. I have read all of your books and am extremely looking forward to reading Fallout, I hope you continue writing. I've never followed through with any author other than you. You are definately my favorite! You tell it like it is, and subconciously letting people look into their lives through another perspective. I love your writing style, and how your words are on the pages, it makes reading so much more exciting. Thank you for writing so perfectly, Chelsea.

I have read many books, but my favorite of all time have to be all your books. I have been inspired by you to write my own stuff. I am currently working on my own verse novel. I wish that at some point I could meet you, Ellen, because I would like for you to help me out and give me some pointers. I can't wait for Fallout to come out as I am sure this will be another amazing book.

Thank you Ms. Hopkins for writing your stories. When I read your stories my eyes are opened to a new world of the dark side of the young adults in the world. It's refreshing to see the truth and how you can write about your own family like this. You are my inspiration to write...

It's amazing to just possibly peer into the mind of people who have had worse problems than all of us, and you have clearly given us this glimpse or better yet a true feeling of what it is like. My mind has become addicted to the poetic plot and the tingling sensation of what might happen next. It truly makes me think of the world different, there are a few books that can open your eyes and your books have done that.
You show that the grass is really greener on the other side, all you have to do is conquer your past and live on to the future. I'm sure you know, Mrs. Hopkins, that you have helped many people with your books and I thank you for sharing such intreguing stories and style of writting. You are a fantastic writter. Have a very good day.
Thank you, so very much,
Alyse

Mrs. Hopkins,
I would just also like to say thank you. I have never followed an author's novels, or got so excited to find out a new novel has been released by an author. Your stories have truly inspired me to make a change in someone's life and made me realize people don't always have it so easy. I am currently a criminal justice major, but am planning on going into counseling in the future.
I cannot wait to read Fallout. Your style of writing is amazing.

Thank you so much again,
Carli

Your books amaze me in ways i cant even imagine. I started reading these books and got all my friends to read them too. I had the pleasure of meeting you last year. You came to my school and i bought all the books even though i already read most of them. Your writting inspires me and the way you write is my all time favorite. The stories you write are so real and so emotional. Your not afraid to write the truth and what really happens with people. You are my favorite author and i will read any book you write. Your amazing Mrs. Hopkins(:

Your writing sends shivers up my spine, thoughts to my head; it brings up memories from the past and situations from the present. I laugh, I cry, but mostly I relate.
Your books have moved me in ways I never thought literature could. Thank you so much for sharing your creativity and thoughts, I really look forward to reading Fallout and anymore books to come!

Your books are amazing. They have inspired me to write more poetry about my life and my struggles. I have always looked to other female writers for inspiration but when I read your books I became addicted. I love the way you right. I cannot wait to read more of your work. I can't wait to read more of your books!

Dear Mrs. Hopkins -

I finished Crank this evening, and was stunned at how fast I had tore through it. In 6 hours I had cried and laughed and looked within myself to find my own answers to the questions Kristina asked me as a reader. I beleive that this book has truly touched me, in my head and heart, and made me a better person.

Before your book, I was confused. People who used drugs simply disgusted me, and I didn't undertand them. I could never find reason to why they would do such a thing and thought them mad. But after feeling Kristina's pain, and (although this is tough to admit) finding myself in more then a few ways very similar to her, I understood a different world.

I think and hope this book with keep me on a good path that which I could've easily strayed from before. I'd like to thank you for changing my life.

Sincerly,
Bess

As a child whose parents both suffered through drug addictions, the Crank, Glass, and soon to be Fallout books have strung such a chord in my heart. I know the same esteem issues that Kristina felt, and to see some of them also mirrored in my parents makes me know that what my family has gone through and continues to go through has similarities to others. We are not alone, and you help me to remember that.

And all the terrible thoughts in my head that were similar to the characters in Impulse is also refreshing. To think that the awful ways my mind is, can be transformed into something completely different gives me so much hope.

And though I am not a Mormon, the same religious doubts that clouded my mind for a long time are the same that played out in Burned, and I loved that book. This book allowed me to come to term with my higher power, and live my life a little differently.

Your books are so full of wisdom and emotion. I always read through them in a matter of hours, and I am always left completely desolate at the terror of your characters lives. And yet, they always give me a new perspective for my own life. Ms. Hopkins, what you write is raw, and I appreciate your guts to reach into subjects most fear to even talk about. Thank you for the hope you have given me, and I hope will continue to come. You completely inspire to reach for the stars, and every fiber of my being thanks you for that.

I'm not much of a reader....never really was. One day I decided to go to Barnes and Noble to see what I could find, and I found Burned. I read the first few pages and was directly hooked. I went home and couldnt stop reading. I've never been so hooked on a book before. I finished burned the same day I got it, and went on to tricks. I read all of your books in about a span of a month. You're the only author I care to read a book from. When I ran out of your books, I tried to search for other authors that were somewhat similar, but nothing compared to your writing and books. I can't wait for fallout. Thank you so much for being such an amazing author and person. You've really helped me open my eyes to realize what goes on in the world.

Mrs. Hopkins-
I don't know how often you get to check your comments here, or if someone is hired to do it for you, but if you ever happen to come across this comment, I would love for you to know how many lives your books have changed. When I was in high school (not so very long ago, but already almost another lifetime), a friend of mine and I did a book report on Crank and Glass. We chose the books separately, and when we realized what we had done, we came together and did a group project. We had a big 3 dimensional display of everything we felt was important from the two books, and we explained what happened and how drugs can damage not only your life but the lives of those who care about you. We did such an incredible job (our teacher's words, certainly not ours), that we actually came back and re-presented the project for her other English classes. I hope that some of them got as much out of your books as we do, and I'm looking forward to reading Fallout, just as soon as my library gets it in.

Your books have not only changed my life, but they've changed my entire perspective on life. Impulse got me through a personal experience and helped me believe that life IS worth living. After I read it, I knew that I had to have more. Burned and Identical threw me for a loop as they, too, loosely touched on my memories. They promised me that, no matter what our pasts have done to us, love exists and it will mend our future. Crank and Glass, though they didn't hit home, still hit hard. I love these books and everything they stand for. Thank you, Mrs. Hopkins, for everything you've done through your work.

Dear Ellen Hopkins,

I would like to say thank you on behalf of everyone who has even be touched by your books, they are completely amazing. You opened my eyes to so many things in life; Drug addiction, depression, the struggles many people face in life. Your free verse books are written so beautifully. All of your books are so addicting it's hard to put them down. I have been counting down the days for fallout to come out, & i am going to pick it up first thing after school tomorrow. I also very much look foward to Perfection since Impulse is my favorite book. I wish you best of luck in your adult novel writtings, i will be looking foward to those as well. Once again ms.Hopkins thank you very much. You are an inspiration.

After starting a downward spiral in seventh grade, I took to reading fantasy and fiction novels to get away from reality. I fell deeper and deeper into my dark abyss, and I eventually came to my own way of easing the pain: suicide. About a month before my planned date of this, my friend told me to read your book, Crank. I fell in love with her character, and the horrors she faced. I admired her, and realized how perhaps my life was not so much worth ending. Soon after, I began to read Impulse, a book I believed might help me in deciding what best to do. I instead found a girl exactly who I was, just a bit farther in her “wish for happiness through pain”. When I came to the end, and saw what happened to Tony, Vanessa, and Conner, I realized, fully for the first time, that I shouldn’t take the same action attempted by the three characters. Ms. Hopkins, I want to thank you for the bliss you have brought to my life. I was bulimic, anorexic, and a cutter, all at once. When I read your books, I saw how my life is good, and how even when all hell seems to break lose around me, it could be much worse. So thank you. No one’s life is perfect, and it took your books to help me see that, even with my friends, and even my heartless cheating (now ex-) boyfriend telling me all along what you showed me. So thank you and I hope you keep writing. Your books inspire me, and even now I plan to someday write my own story in verse. It’s not pretty, but it’s the truth, and you finally showed me: that’s the hardest thing to face, and the most important. Thank you.

I have only read Impulse, and so far I adore your writing. That book is incredibly powerful, it opened my eyes into what kind of path I want to take into my career. I'm a Psychology major, and so far I had an idea of what I wanted to do, but after reading your book I realized how badly people are hurt out there and how misunderstood they are, how many need help and how much I want to be the one who gives that help.

Thank you for not being afraid of writing the truth, for addressing real people's problems and not just turning everything into a everything's perfect kind of story. Thank you for being real. You are more than talented, and I'm anxiously waiting to get a hold of all of your other books <3

Thank you for telling the story of children affect by the monster. It feels great for people to finally understand what we've been through and the fear of turning out just like them. I've always felt so alone, but it's sad to hear how many go through what I had to with my parents' relationship with the monster. Most people don't want to deal with the ugly in life and pretend this problem doesnt exist. I'm glad you were brave enough to expose it. I wish I could write like you. If I could I would write a novel about how healing the scars the monster has left is harding than surviving a childhood with the monster.

Thank you so much for your books. Especially Crank, it helped me so much. My uncle used to do crystal meth, and it hurt my whole family. We all have tried to help him for years. He hasn't done it in years, but his life is still not ok. He still drinks and smokes a lot, and can't hold down a job. But we keep hoping that because he kicked his meth habit, one day...
Your books are amazing, and it is so inspiring to see an authour who isn't afraid to write about things that actually affect my age group (I'm 15). Thank you thank you thank you for your books. I still cry when I read Crank and Glass. "Kristina's" life may never be the same, but as long as you have hope, something good may happen. You are my inspiration. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Sarah

Jenny said...

As much as i absolutely love Crank and Glass and cannot wait to read Fallout, I must say it was a bit of a struggle for me to read them, because it would trigger my cravings so bad. It's embaressing to say but it only took one time smoking meth to crave it again. Reading about Kristina getting high just made me want to make a phone call right then and there. After I would read for a few hours I would be pulling my hair out without even realizing it. Meth addiction is real and it only takes one time to go to desperate measures to do it again.. and again. Reading these books has opened my eyes to realize even the best of people can fall so hard. Your books have inspired me to start my path to sobriety. I plan to move in a few weeks to get out of the God forsaken drug town i live in. It will be a hard road and the thought of severe withdrawl scares me, but as I've read from your books, the outcome of continuing the drug is extremely worse. Thank you for telling the truth about this horrible drug.

It's 5am and I've opened up fallout to read. I come across my name and my heart skips a beat. "Ashante! how many times..." (&& i won't continue the rest because not everyone has read the book) but to see my name which is pronounced Ashantay in your book. Made my world. I can't tell you how many times I've sat down and read Impulse over and over again. Like the Ashante in your book I grew up in foster homes too. I can relate to Vanessa who cut for so long... I did for 6 years and at 18 its been 2 years since i've stopped. My real mother is the exact way Kristina/Bre is. And it just amazes me how [your books] some how sketch out every aspect of my childhood and life. Tricks made me want to find love, Identical opened old wounds, Burned made me think back to a time where I hated my family and I was just so alone. and Crank and glass made me understand my mother. Your books have done more than just captivate me, and make me come back for more. They have saved my life. and for that I say thank you.
Thank you so much.

Hi Ellen: My (younger sister) introduced me to your books right before she graduated H.S. ( a few months ago) So far I've read: Crank, Class, Burned & Tricks. I just finished Fallout last night and... I cannot put your books down once I have them in my hand and I'm always sad once I've finished them (weird, I guess) I was in the middle of a book when my sister ordered Fallout for me as a surprise... This may sound strange, but in some ways I'm addicted to your books... I can't wait til I have all of them on my shelf... Out of the several I've read thus far... Burned & Fallout have really impacted me... Burned especially... I really don't understand why since I really can't relate to it from personal experience, so My guess is the way the story was written! I think you're a brilliant author and I'm super glad I've met your books!

Ellen Hopkins, Last year, i saw everyone at school reading your books; Crank and Glass.. i wondered why everyone wouldn't put those books down.. So for Christmas, I told my Grandma that i wanted the books Crank and Glass by Ellen Hopkins. On Christmas Eve, i opened up both books.I spent all Christmas day reading Crank.. I couldn't put it down! Then i started reading Glass, that took me about three days to complete.. I was completely addicted to your books. So after Christmas i bought your books, Burned and Impulse.. I was so moved by those books, for my birthday and Valentines day i received Tricks and Identical.. You are such an amazing poet. It's unbelieveable that you could write a poem and make it into a story as well. You are so brave to write out your families personal business and feelings like you did. I just recently bought fallout and it took me 2 days to complete.. I seriously did not want to read it so fast because i know it would end the Crank series and i know you won't have another book out until next year.. All three of those books were amazing.. I promised myself not to get addicted to drugs, and I'm not. As i read Crank, i thought to myself, one little slip can end your life in a flash.. And i can't imagine how your life turned upside down from it. I don't know anybody with an addiction, but for those out there who do,i pray for you, and pray for your loved ones to come back from their addiction..Ellen Hopkins you are such an Inspirational person, and I'm really influenced by your books.. You are giving a positive out look for kids who young and are learning things about sex and drugs, and how to avoid them... Your giving them the chance to see what happens to your life with the "monster" And i hope kids younger than me, read your books and make the decisions not to become an addict to anything, whether it's drugs, or sex or alcohol. Thank you for giving me the chance to read your books (:

Ellen, you are one of my favorite authors, I love all your books. They are phenominal. The way u write inspires me to take a step back and look at people for who they really are. Everyone is different. I also like how you write about real life sittuations. Drugs are a serious matter in the lives of people today, espec...ially in the lives of young adolescents. Love is apart of everyone's lives whether or not they want it. Several authors write books about how "perfect" life is and their stories always have a happy ending. You, on the other hand, write about reality and real life stories. As a reader, I never know what to expect next, when reading your books, and that makes them interesting. I like the excitment I get when reading your books. They keep me on edge. No one's life is perfect, and the
"real" books you write show that. They also teach us lessons. I have an idea for a book i would like for u to write in the future, that's if you would like to. You can contact me @facebook.com. search for Whitney Tatlock. Thank you for the exciting adventures through your books,

Whitney Breyan <3

I've just read Fallout and as with all of your other books you did not disappoint. I have to take a few days' break before reading something by anyone else because everything would just be dull after reading your work. I came across Crank in a book store a couple of years ago and I had never read anything so real. I love how you don't hold back with any of your stories. Thank you for writing these amazing books.

Ms.Hopkins,

thanks for writing the books! they changed my life in ways i couldn't even imagine! I used to be a depressing 8th grader who isolated herself from her friends. after reading your books, i have came to realize that there are some people in this world who have it worse than me, and that i'm not alone. I still have those "blah" days once in a while, but i am not as depressing as i was before. Please note that your books have changed millions of lives. Continue to write, please!!!

Wow. I just read Tricks yesterday. It was amazing!!! I loved reading all of thier stories...but what happens to all of them? The end of the book kind of leaves you hanging. Will there be a sequel to end all of my predictions? Does Eden stay with Andrew forever like they said they would? Is Sandy ok? does Iris die miserably like she deserves to? Does Seth's dad ever accept him for who he really is? Does Whitney end up okay? Does she get along with her family better? And that is just the beginning of my questions. And last but not least...Why Vegas?

Dear Ms. Hopkins,

I just finished reading "Fallout," and as I write this, I am literally shaking with anger and disappointment. I don't care how awful a person is, at their core, or by their choices, *they are not responsible for their own rape.* EVER. Through your characters, you gave the rapist (Brendan) a pass because of his drug addiction, then indicated that Kristina was partially responsible because of her own drug involvement-- and left it there. Victim=selfish and incapable of love; rapist=formerly misguided guy who wasn't responsible for his actions. As an author, and even more, as a *mother,* you have a responsibility to your audiences and your children (by choice or by fate) to explain that there is never, ever an excuse for rape. Where is the grandparent's scene or discussion with "Hunter" that what the sperm force-donor did was *wrong*? And where is the bit of compassion or human understanding that--no matter how hard the fallout of drug addiction may have affected the surrounding characters/family members--that *RAPE* most likely caused even more damage to the daughter than drug addiction would have caused on its own? No, you didn't choose to be the parent of a junkie. However, you *did* choose to be the voice for victims and young adults, and therefore, you have a responsibility to explain that (no matter how confused the child of the rapist & victim may be) rape is never, ever the fault of the victim, and those victims, no matter the circumstances of their rape, still have rights, feelings, and worth as an individual. Something you, as an author (hopefully, not as a mother) failed to give Kristina in the third book of your trilogy.

Dear Ellen,

I loved all of your books more than ANY I've ever read, and I've read a lot. My favorite one you've written is Impulse. I connected with Vanessa because I used to be in that same dark place... And although I didn't have the same connection with Connor, I sobbed when he took that final step... Death, no matter the relation to you, still has the same ability to tear your heart out. I was able to see how my own parents felt, so I thank you for that. This book changed my life, and my outlook on it. There is always an out, and it doesn't need to be forever.

Thank you for everything,
Maddie(:

Dearest (if I may) Ellen,
Your books are quite possibly the best books I have ever read. I display them proudly in my room, as their look is as catchy and amazing as the books themselves. It was precisely the cover of Crank that first caught my attention at the bookstore, as I mindlessly browsed shelves and shelves of books. That cover stood out and after reading the summary, I knew I had to buy it. So I did, and I devoured it in a couple of days.. These are the kind of books I'll reread and never get rid of. It is truly amazing how captivating the stories are, especially because they are based on real facts. It is important for young people to read accounts such as these so they can grasp how serious a matter drugs are... I think it would be beneficial and very interesting to see excerpts (or the whole book)included in high school reading lists.. These books are truly an eye-opener, whether it's the Crank series, or the other 4 (Impulse, Burned, Tricks & Identical). I am currently reading Fallout and already I am hooked. I just discovered that you will be releasing Perfect in 2011 and I am psyched! :) Best of luck, and definitely keep writing!! Cheers!

Dear Mrs. Hopkins. I would really like you to know that your books are one of the only ones that linger in my memory way after i've read them. I always find myself wondering what's going to happen to the characters next. I have just finished reading Fallout, ten minutes ago, and I must say I loved it just as much as I did your other books (though i haven't read them all, they're not really available where i'm from). I do hope that you never stop writing because your stories inspire people and they have most certainly inspired me. I've always wanted to be a writer, though i am very fickle minded about it nowadays. It is people like you who make me want to continue to give it everything I've got and to never give up. I do hope that the ending to your personal story does end well, in reality. I wish you all the best, and thanks a million.

I didn't want Tricks to end! I waited and waited, not sure when Fallout was due out and I went into a Books-A-Million yesterday and there it was! I was so excited!

Mrs. Hopkins,
I am sorry for your experiences and the feats you've had to incounter. I know that Crank, Glass, and Fallout were all based on a true story. I've always read about you in the back of your books. I've read them all multiple times. I've been through alot of the same things. I have never read any other authors work and enjoyed it as much as yours. You captured the obstacles, and emotional rollercoaster ride of teenagers so accurately. No sugar coating. I am a enormous fan and an aspiring writer. I've been published a couple of times. I hope one day to make it as far as you. I would LOVE to meet you and talk with you. In fact, if I had money, i would travel any amount of miles I needed to to reach you. You are astounding and I hope one day SOMEHOW we cross paths.
With so much adoration, Jade.

I just wanted to say how much I love all of your books. They're so unique and different from all the other YA books out there. With most of the books I read, I can almost immediately guess the ending, because the authors always sugar-coat the book and the ending is always happy and predictable, but life isn't sugar-coated. That's why I love your books. You really capture how life plays out. I can't wait until Perfect comes out, and I hope you keep writing for a long time.

Ellen Hopkins you are an insperation to many people. I remember when I read the first book I got of yours, Crank. It completely captured me. I Love books, I own hundreds of books and yet I have never read a book like yours. I have always loved poetry and the fact that you write your books inverse I couldn't get enough of it. I went out and bought all of your books and can't ever wait for your next book to come out. I buy them as soon as I see that you have a new one out. They are all amazing in their own way. You know how to really capture us into their stories while saying very little. I think it was the first page where I realized that there were secret sentences depending on the spacing and so on where I beyond fell in love with your books. If more books were written like yours then maybe even some of my friends would even start reading books. Needless to say you are pretty much tied as my favorite Author and I hope you continue writting for many years to come.

Your books are honeslty remarkable.
You've not only touched my life with your books, but touched many others... You've ventured into an area of expertise most are afraid to enter. You do not judge us teenagers but instead symphatize and understand us in ways many cannot. You have made me happy, sad, emotional, and angry all at once. Each character each story brings all of us thogether. Connects the shattered souls of this generation into one. Because we are all looking for one thing : Love.
That is really all we want, and we have different circumstances and different lives. opinions and, attitudes but we can all realte to the feelings oh hoplessness, anger, depression, and lonliness.
I started reading crank at age 8 and I have now read every book you've ever written. I cannot tell you how talented you are or, how much you have helped people.
Your words speak so much, you feel so much. I can say , "Thank You"

Mrs. Hopkins, I know you probably receive hundreds of letters from fans saying "Thank you", but I hope that you won't get sick of one more from me.
My life has been similar to Kristina's--and Bree's. I've always had to battle another person inside of me. I can relate to myself as Kristina, as my personality fits hers perfectly, as does Bree fit the other person inside of me. For four years, I've been battling depression, dealing with suicidal attempts, but hiding any evidence of it all so perfectly, thanks to the "Bree" inside of me. And although I may not be dealing with drug abuse, I'm trying to overcome my depression--but I just can't. I understand that Bree is no imaginary playmate, and Kristina's life almost illustrates mine. I want to thank you, because for once in my life, it feels as if somebody understands what it feels like to be possessed by two completely different people and make what seems so impossible possible.
I truly wish "Kristina" the best of luck.

Hi, Thank you for writing your stories. Impulse is the book I was affected by the most. I can relate a bit to most of the characters. When I was extremely young my father started beating me. It was not whoopings with a belt , it was switches, electrical cords. He tried to hang me with an electrical cord that was hanging from a ceiling. He let his friends do things to me for drugs. Made me crawl on my hands and legs for him and his friends to put cigs out on my back. He left me outside knowing I had an allergy to the sun so my skin basically boiled over. We ran from him and he always found us. People read your stories, and watch movies and say oh that never happens but it does. Scary traumatic things happen all the time. Those are not even the worse things that have ever happened to me. I remember thinking, if I just kill myself it will all be over, he wants me dead so badly maybe if I kill myself daddy will be happy and love me again. I always placed blame on myself. We finally left him after 12 years of torment. I found out not to long after I have the same mental condition he had. Bipolar Schizophrenia, I cried and never wanted to leave my room, I was afraid to be just like him, I started cutting myself every time I had a bad thought as punishment. I was admitted against my will but to be best I think the best help I had was your book. You made me feel like I am not alone. Thank you so so very much I wish I could say I was lucky enough to own one of your books but as you know thanks to the economy money is tight. I am grateful for the 1 free book I get a year thanks to a church store, but it is books only they approve of darn it hahaha any ways thank you for being there for all of those people who have a "that could never happen" life.

I love love love your books. From your first, Crank, to your latest, Fallout. I read each one in under a day. They are amazing, and so detailed. They show me that i have so much to live for, and no matter what, you dont have to go down the path that many others choose. Drugs, prostitution, partying, etc. it can all lead to roads you dont have to take. Your books just take me away, i feel like im in them, living them. It shows me what a fucked up life people can live, and i truly sympathize for all of them. I wish i could help everyone with everything. You're books have inspired me, and i thank you so much. I hope you keep writing, because you are great at what you do.

I still need to read Fallout, which I plan to check out tomorrow at the library, I read the first pages, and my gosh. I coudn't wait to read it all.(this was in June)

Dear Mrs. Hopkins:

I am currently a senior in high school and I have never been much of a reader. One day I saw my friend Christina reading one of your books, Crank, and I thought never in a million years would i read a book that big. Well, you guessed it...I'm in the middle of Fallout already.

I read Crank in about 2 weeks, moved onto Glass, read that one in another 2 weeks, and I am now reading Fallout. I cannot wait to read all of your other books.

I am a writer myself (if you can call it that). I love writing poetry. Your writing reminds me so much of mine it's almost crazy. The stuff you talk about and how you write it are a lot like how I write. You have definitely inspired me to write even more than I already do. It makes me feel like the things I write about are not bad at all, just a part of life.

I have shared very few writings with my friends. But after reading your books I've become more comfortable with sharing them.

I greatly appreciate you writing all of your wonderfully amazing books! I know they have, and will continue to inspire others.

Sincerely,

Allison Lee :)

Your story Fallout has brought tears to my eyes. I realized how a lot of the words are the words that I am really saying. I grew up with addict parents and an older sister who has 3 boys, one also named Orion, which were taken away by CPS 7 years ago. I can relate a lot to the kids in the story. Not exactly but I found myself crying towards the end. Addiction hurts anyone who cares. Today I can say that I am 19 years old and I have been working in a drug and alcohol rehab since the month I turned 18. I appreciate this book more than you will ever know.

I just seen your book Crank at the store for the first time and decided to buy it because it was about addiction. Although i'm not addicted to crank i have been struggling with an addiction to medication. I am mostly over it but i feel like it will never truley go away! I love your book and i can't wait til i go out and buy the rest of them.

Mrs. Hopkins, your books are amazing. I remember looking for books one day and coming across Crank- taking a look at the back and automatically needing to know Kristina's walk with the monster. Wanting to see what Crank could do to someone, to their lives. I'd recently read a book called "Smack" by Melvin Burgess and after seeing what Heroin could do to someone, I was craving the knowledge of what Meth did to someone.
I've heard a lot about crank, even before reading your amazing novel, but all my previous knowledge made me want to taste it- to dance with it. Even after reading all of your books, I want that taste, but I ignore it, in heed of the warning you were trying to send out. It's hard though, because I've lost myself to pills a long time ago, and I remember how close to heaven those made me, so to want to taste something stronger, heavier, would have been magic for me; but I just have to think of Kristina's story and think, "Do I really want that?" I'm sorry that your daughter has had that walk with the monster, and I'm happy that she found her way out.

Thank you for your books, and I want you to continue writing!! I really wish that there could be another book to the Crank trilogy, soo badly. I want to know what it was that made Kristina stop, what happened to make her finally put it down and say "No" ! And I know that Hunter is real, but are any of the others real ?

I literally cannot even begin to describe how your writing has effected me. Tricks was the first of your novels I ever read and coincidentally it came into my life the date it was released! It caught my eye at Chapters and something told me that this book was going to change me. After reading it I was in so much shock about how incredible it was I just knew I couldn't get enough of you! I've read every single book, and am currently working on Fallout and soon Perfect. Although I have to say that your greatest book is without a doubt CRANK. The way you wrote it is so perfect, it left so many beautiful and creative pictures and images in my mind. I even wrote a song about it called "THE MONSTER" I've email you about it and sent you the words I believe ( not sure if you remember) , and if i ever record it i'd love to send it your way. Im just really glad that there is someone out in this world that is so creative and ingenious as you are in your writing, it feels so honest. I can't wait to finish Fallout & read Perfect as well as anything and everything else that you write !

thank you for leaving me breathless

When I was fourteen I moved to a different city outside of Toronto because of a divorce my parents had and I was excited to have a fresh start where no one knew my name and I wanted to fit in more then anything because I wasn't accepted at my other school so I met a girl who I thought was just like me struggling with depression but turns out there was a lot more wrong she introduced me to cocaine, heroine, pot, cigarettes, ketamine, mdma, acid, lsd ect. It wasn't long until the school found out her and I were using drugs. Suddenly I craved attention so I created ''friends'' to impress my older ''friends'' back home where my father lived and people bought it because of the fake photoshopped pictures I had then suddenly I was pretending more and more, creating stories, using drugs more, cutting myself, contemplating suicide and planning to leave home. It wasn't long until my mother shipped me over to my fathers house and I fell in love but destroyed that love with foolish lies to impress him so we ended a year later and I met someone else who was the love of my life for almost three years and he showed me your books and said maybe I could relate to the stories told, I could. Every word I read made me feel as if I was reading my own stories. For so long I suffered with addiction and depression and everyone knew it from the scars on my arms, legs and my pale sick face from the drugs. Your book impulse gave me hope and your books glass and crank made me realize if I don't stop my addictions that'll be me one day, that is me. I just turned seventeen and I own your books crank, glass, burned, impulse, identical and fall-out. I also own 'flirtin' with the monster' your words are powerful and they mean so much to me and although you probably heard so many stories of how your books helped someone..I really do mean it, your books helped me find the strength to reach out and get help before it was too late and I almost look healthy again, you can't really tell that I used drugs unless you look back at old photographs so thank you, thank you for writing the stories you wrote.

Thank you so much for helping me change my life and the way I look at it. Thank you for unknowingly saving my life from suicide.

Thank you.

I thought about writing on your dedication wall for a while now... And couldn't think to write anything, but just say I love your books & they have touched my heart deeply. I remember going to Barnes & Nobles and glancing around and saw a black book that marked Crank I believe I was 15 at the time... And going through my thing in life... where everything was not going quite well. My escape was reading and music. Basically, I didn't know what Crank really was... I took the book out of the shelf and started to read it right there... I realized it was so deep and I felt related to "Kristina" well... I ended up not buying Crank right away but came back to get it a week later... and finished it quickly. By the end of Crank... I was amazed and so curious... I played it out, thinking about the characters...how those characters relate to my life... wanted to know more... I realized later that it was based on your daughter and didn't even remember it was in your author's note.
Since then I've read all your books... and fell in love with them all. In my eyes you seem to be such a talented, strong, kind hearted, amazing woman to do what you have been doing. You show your readers another world, another side, a deep cut of the world out there... and how you can discover to find yourself again, I like that because for a long time now... struggling with many things can take a toll on you till you may not even know who you are. Burned and Glass showed me... a meaning I guess you could say... a meaning for life change... to keep striving to know who you are, and understand who you are.

Your books show such rawness, for you to describe so many emotions, and story lines... it gives me so much thought on you and how you've created something so phenomenal.

I'll be starting Tricks & Fallout soon. I hope you continue to do what you are doing, your life to be more amazing than anything, and I appreciate you for writing these books.. because if you didn't I know many people wouldn't see things in a different perspective... I would never have understood certain things as I do now 3yrs later. You've guided me through your books and have inspired me... I feel like I can write so much to you... but thank you.

:)

Ellen. I'd be six feet under if it wasn't for your books, to put it simply. This past April, I attempted suicide, and it's still had to talk about. While in the mental hospital I read Impulse for the second time. Reading the book at first just made me more and more depressed, because I realized how so many people go through depression, and get better, I didn't think it would happen to me, and it still hasn't. Your books have moved me in ways that half of the people in my life couldn't even begin to come close to. Once I got out of the hospital, I went back to usual things, testing limits. Seeing how deep I could cut, how many pills I could take, what I could do, with out people noticing. I read your book for a third time. I realized that my jealousy towards other people, and thier happiness, made things worse. I finally gave in, accepted I had a problem, and got counciling. I still can't fully open up to my therapist about all the secrets I hide, but I'm trying. I haven't cut for 4 months, and although pathetic, it's the longest I haven't cut for the past 4 years. I just want you to know, and your fans to know, that not everyone immeadiatly responds to your books, but eventaully, it effects everyone. I want you to know what an inspiration to my life you were, and thank you, for being a reason for me to live.

Ellen,
I love your books. Reading is what makes me breath and when i write it keeps me breathing and your books well they give me more oxygen to survive than needed. And its weird because in all your books ive been able to connect with one or more characters. in crank i related to kristina by doing drugs ive never tried chrystal meth only ever weed but its still an illegal substance i was pressured to try. in glass i still related to kristina i had a pregnancy scare once but it was negitive sadly hers was positive.in burned i related to pattyn because i have an alocholic father who never has and never will understand me. in impulse i related to vanessa because she cut and conner because he killed himself and there has been days in my life where thats all iv'e thought about doing. I related to kaeleigh and raeanne because i got molested by one of my dads friends and she got molested by her father so i know how she would have felt. Ive been in counsling for almost a year now and ive been sober for awhile but id like to thank you emensly for writting. You have opend my world to many writting techniqes. and hope you continue writting.

Dear Mrs. Hopkins,

I've been reading your books since sixth grade (so, that's been three years, now), and they've impacted me greatly. Every book of yours grappled with demons that I carry--that all girls, no, people my age do--and you made me laugh, cry, and have simply amazed me. You've painted a picture of life, true life, through your spellbinding words. Mrs. Hopkins, I am a self-proclaimed agnostic, but I can't help but believe that if there is some deity out there, your words are what he or she would say.
God, I hope that didn't sound too weird.
Mrs. Hopkins, the fact that your writing has touched so people as much as it has touched me inspires me. Your books, in part, have made it my dream to touch people like you've touched me.
With hope for you, your daughter Cristal, and Orion,
Ekat

I have to say that I had teachers at my school that wanted me to stop students from reading your novels. These teachers thought the books were inappropriate for school environment (these student purchased your books on their own). As a Language Arts teacher, I could not bear telling those readers, especially the reluctant readers, to put down a book. Many of these students completed reading projects on a variety of your books and I am completely impressed with what these young people took from your books. Thank you for being real.

Hi Mrs. Hopkins. I have read all your books and I love them. I started reading them a few years ago and had issues putting the first one down. After that I really wanted to read all your other ones. Recently I noticed that you don't have a book about someone in an abusive relationship. I bet that you get these kind of messages all the time but I think that a lot of people don't understand the trials and hardships of someone in an abusive relationship. I know that you wrote a bit about how Pattyn's dad beats her mom in 'Burned' but I think that you should tell a story about how a girl, or boy, is totally dependent on their abuser whether it be their lover, parent, or someone else. I myself have never been in an abusive relationship but I knew someone who was and I tried to get her out but she thought he did it because he loved her. Thankfully she got out of it but there were people who thought she was crazy not basically brainwashed. I just think that if there was a story about everything that happens in one and what the signs are more people would understand what goes on. I believe that if you wrote it the word would spread quicker because of how many people read, love, and respect your books.

I've read all of your books except for Tricks and Fallout, and they have helped my decision to stay away from drugs. Your books are inspiring and full of the truth no one else seems to be able to show. Impulse is my favorite, for showing me that there's hope, showing me what I go through at home isn't as nearly as bad as what others must go through. Your books help me get through, and deal with the things I'd rather not.
Thank you so much,

Mrs. Hopkins, wow where to start? I love your books. I find that I can often connect with them in a way unlike most other books. My favorites of your books are Impulse, Tricks, and Fallout. Again I love your books and cant wait to read the next ones.

Thanks a whole lot Mrs. Hopkins your books are great (if a bit....... uh........ you know...... graphic) so please keep writing. Oh I really can't wait to read Fallout and Tricks they're the only ones I haven't read. And oh again, I must agree with the person above me, please never stop writing, I might cry if you do.

These books have just showed me what it is like to grow up. Each event and page just leaves me craving for more. You are one of my favorite authors, and I'm glad that my friend showed me your books.

Dear Mrs. Hopkins,

Your books have completely inspired me. I only read Crank but now I must read Impulse. I know a little about drug abuse since my aunt Tawny was and probably still is a drug abuser. I've never met her and my mother and the rest of my family has no idea where she is. I also deal with depression and writing poetry helps me so much. I also heard you like Pink Floyd so I automatically adore you. I wish you the best of luck with your writing.

Reading your novels has educated and inspired me to lend a hand to whoever I can, and hope that I can make a difference in a life. In a certain way, your tales have changed me; they have made me grow up, which is entirely a good thing. Your talent is one which has helped and continues to help a population understand certain aspects of modern human nature. I would just like to close by saying thank you for teaching, for inspiring, and for understanding. No one has made a difference like you have.

Okay, Well, first off I want to thank you for the amazing books you've written. Mrs. Hopkins, your books are inspirational and eye opening. When I started to read Crank, I could not put it down. I did not leave my room till I finished it! After I read Glass, I was left speechless. Burned just astounded me. I read Identical and I was left in tears. The book was truly amazing. I still did not get the chance to read Impulse, Fallout, or Tricks, but I know I will.

Your book are something little parts of wonderful to make up a big picture. A masterpiece. Not only did it help me as I sat in the psychiatric hospital reading this book by the shining light from the crack of the bathroom door...it was was my savior. I remember my mother put it in a pillow for me to read because they wouldn't give me a book like that to read in there. For it would be deemed distraction to my health plan and a bad influence. It was what I needed to see the blue I would slip into, and also Helped me get back into my writing. You have helped, and changed so many lifes. Because when you're 16, alone, confused, and scared in a psychiatric hospital...you dont have friends, you don't have parents, you have insignificant doctors and yourself. But for me, I had the book. So for that I genuinely thank you.

Out of all of your books, Mrs. Hopkins, Impulse had the biggest effect on me. I picked it up after reading Crank and Glass, but before Fallout had been published. I didn't know what it was about, but that it was written by you and that that made it wonderful. At the time, I was dealing with suicidal thoughts that I could not understand, and I was even plotting suicide sometimes in my head. When I read Impulse, I began to understand that I was not the only one that felt like this. This summer, I was on a mission trip in Texas and we were having a group meeting thing where everybody talked about things that they are having trouble with. I decided to step forward and say that I was thinking about killing myself. My youth pastor got me help and everybody prayed with me. It was the smartest thing that I have ever done, and I do not think that I would have done it had I not read Impulse. Thank you so much, Ellen, for your incredible, life changing stories. They saved my life.

Thank you so much, Mrs. Hopkins! I, myself, know the experiences you may have been going through. I am 19 years old, and have lived with my grandparents since I was born. I know my mother, I've spent time with her. She was clean...then. She hooked up with this guy, and had my brother. About a year and a half later, she had my sister. Then we started noticing things. The kids would be half starved when they came over, dirty, and never wanting to leave. Later, she went to prison for drug trafficking and possession of cocaine. The kids came to live with us. She has had three more children, all of which have been taken off of her. We do not know where they are, or who they are. That was seven years ago. No phone calls, no birthday cards, and no Christmas presents. She doesn't care. So, Mrs. Hopkins, I fully understand what you mean when you say that the addict's life isn't the only life the drug affects, it affects everyone around them too. Thank you for telling a story, which relates to me in such a way, along with many many other people. Thank you.

Hello, Ellen!
I can't believe how amazing your books are, you are now my favorite author. I do like reading a lot,but I don't read that often because i find it difficult to find a book that i can really get into and enjoy, but all of your books are easy to get into. And once I'm wrapped within your story, it's just awesome!
I just finished Burned and it was awesome, it had quite the ending! I can't wait for Smoke!
The only books I haven't read of yours are Identical and Tricks, and i really want to go out and buy them, but i can't because i'm pretty sure my mom has already gotten me one of them for Christmas!
I want to be an author myself, and i've already written this one book called Bethrost Part One. It's the first of a trilogy, and its 154 pages! Lots of people at school (including my english teacher) have read it and loved!! It would so awesome to publish it.
The first book of yours i read was Impulse, and i didn't really know what to expect, especially because i had never read a book in your poetry/free verse format. But i loved, as i have loved all of your books!! Your just such a brilliant author and i love how your stories are so raw, realistic, and just emotional!
Everyone should read your books so they know what some other people really got through.

I love your novels and what you write about. Please don't stop.

Please continue to write, I will always follow your newest releases. You have been given an awesome talent and I am happy you are sharing it with the world, while also opening up about your stories. I'm sixteen. I read all your books in a very short time. They had a huge impact on me. Impulse and Identical are my favorite. I struggle with a lot of the things you write about. i needed some kind of answer to my problems, and i didn't know how reliable a book could be, and honestly i didn't care. i just needed some other escape from reality besides using drugs, and your books were that escape. it takes courage to write about the deep things you wrote about. Addiction, Suicidal people, People who sells themselves. I couldn't begin to write my life story down, I've tried, its hard to do, it's hard to want to read my words manifesting to something real on the paper, to realize I've made so many mistake. I can relate to your books, your an amazing author. You've touched a lot of people's life, mine included. I write everyday. Your books are extremely inspiring. Thank you. I'm Sarah, by the way.

I read Carnk my Freshman year, followed be Glass my sophmore year, and i recently finished Fallout. I thought after glass there would be no more to follow. But i was very excited to see you publish a new book. I have to tell you that alot of ppl in my School really Adore your books and there is always a waiting list in our library. My goal in life is to meet you, and Kristina. Im not sure if thats her real name because im sure that you changed everyones identity when writing. But yes that is a major item at the top of my list. Thank you for reading, which i hope that you do.

Dear Mrs. Hopkins,
In a way your books re tell my life. Except, I'm still living it, I am not a fictional character. I suffer from OCD, I suffer from parents who have abused the Monster, who still do abuse the Monster. When Crank was first published, I was extremely skeptical thinking you were another writer who assumed they knew the story. Well most don't, but you did. Your books really stuck out to me, in ways that I can not even pin point. My mother, left her first born son up for adoption while dealing with an abusive boyfriend, and anerixoa, and the monster. My next older sibling (I am the youngest) also a boy, and myself deal with my mother and her issues on a day to day basis. As I write this, my mother is still passed out after two days of crashing. This isn't just something that happens, my brother and I expect it to.. She has no control, we are no longer teens, we are adults. We both have jobs of which we work well over the allowed limits for our ages. We need to though, with the small amount of child support from my father, and the bills that rack up, my brother and I refuse to go with my father, also a victim of the monster.

Ellen, may I call you Ellen? Your books are some of the only things I can cling to in my life and have hope that like the children of Kristina, like the rest of the families Kristina has affected, I can come out a better person, I can will myself, and my brother, to not fall to it. I refuse to, and anytime I feel like I'm slipping towards the edge, I pick up one of your books. Thank you so much for giving me hope when I have no family around to give me hope. Ellen you are my idol, I want to become a write one day, tell my story as it is. Someday I'll have the voice to, maybe someday, my books will be like yours.

I loved your writing section on your website, its very helpful and puts some reality in my dream.

Your books tell a story, a real story, and I can always relate to them, I have never had a BIG drug addiction, but I Have been through things in my life and i'm glad to see through your books i'm not alone. I hope to meet you one day,and get your autograph. Books are my life, and yours are some of my favorites. I can't wait to read more from you, and again I hope you decide to tell more of the children's story, I would like to know what happened. Mrs. Hopkins, I am a 42 yr old mother of 3. Both my parents were addicts and I had a very stormy childhood. I myself struggle with multiple addictions but have somehow managed to hold a stable family life for my children, this is mostly due to my husband, a wonderful man. I first read Glass, I could not put it down and finished it the same day. I just finished Fallout and cried when all the children were together. It reminds me so much of my childhood and not knowing many of my siblings. I think what you do is wonderful and I am a huge fan. Thank you for sharing so much of your story. TB

Dear Ellen. You seriously have got to be my most favorite author ever. I'm not saying that in a "Oh my gawd" way either. You inspire me to not be like those around me, and to get my life straight. Thank you so much for telling Kristina's story; For telling our story. Your a gift to us all. You inspire me not only to be a better me, But to be the writer I so desperately want to be. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your books have given me guidence and hope. Lots of thanks- Alex

I realize you may not read this, but I just wanted to say how much I love your books and how you can really show what goes on behind closed doors. I have an issue with self confidence, depression and cutting. So I could relate to impulse. I've been cutting for about four years now. Tired to stop but I just can't. I haven't for a few days, so i guess that's a plus. I hate when my friends do it, I don't want them to get addicted like I am. It started with safety pins and now its razor blades. I don't want to kill myself or anything, just want some release. Thank you for speaking out about this. So many people think its an attention thing. But honestly, I could care less if people know. Keep them books coming<3 :)

I loved your books soo much! I actually read Burned first, it was in the back of our library under lock and key at my Jr High School and our parents had to sign a permission form because of the content. I love all of your books and being honest to made me never want to try any type of drugs. I have recommended them to all my friends and am currently giving copies of Crank to my friends for Christmas. I will continue to read your books and will probably keep them all my life.

You'll never no how much these books have done for me,

Ellen, I have been a fan of your books for years. Crank came to me during hard times and I fell in love with it and every story that followed. I have just finished Fallout and I just wanted to say bravo! This book was more than amazing! A great way to end a story that touches everyone in many ways. I look forward to many more of your books, and to stories that will make life a better place for me somehow. Thank you for your stories and the true dedication you put into your work. Thank you.

I love all of your novels, and I have read all of them.
I also appreciate the style of writing that you have, It's refreshing and deep.
I can't wait for you to write more mesmerizing stories. I can relate to many of your novels, as young girl who has experience the torment of addiction, abuse and death to name only a few, you depict things very accurately. Also, I am a young writer with a long way to go, and I can only dream of one day writing such touching and wonderful stories as you have and will. You are certainly someone I look up to, don't ever stop creating your works of art,
Maegan.

Dear Ellen Hopkins

First of all Im absolutly in love with your style of writing, it's so descriptive and powerful. I never was that much of a reader until I stummbled upon Crank in the school library, I was young and impressionable. I had no idea Crank would impact me the way it did, I would read it over and over again I couldnt put it down, Glass too, in so many ways I could relate to Kristina and Bree. You've inspired me in more ways than one. I enjoyed and own all of your other books Burned, Impulse, Identical, and Tricks but by far Crank, Glass, and Fallout stand alone. I just finished fallout and I actually cried at the end. When I started it and realized there was no Kristina point of view I was dissapointed wanting to get her side of things... But may I say you did a remarkable job portraying the rest of her story through her three oldest children. I think out of the three I mostly related to Autumn, not knowing where she came from, all three portrayals were powerful and disturbing in their own way and so very similar to Kristina's personality. At times I even saw a bit of Bree in each of them which I think really gave fallout that extra flare that it needed to end the series for good. Even though it breaks my heart that you wont write more to this intense and moving story, you truly did a wonderful job you've inspired so many lives thank-you so much for sharing your families story with the world.

in the kristina series....when i erad it i was very surprised.. because all of that had happened to me. the meth, the pregnancies, everything. and i just wanted to say that your book helped me so much. i went on to read glass, and fallout and loved them all. then i read impluse, burned and tricksd i am starting identical in the near future. i alwaays hated reading til i opened your books. now i cant close them. the end of impulse really shocked me and im very intrested to read perfect. im hoping there is going to be a fourth kristina book about her relationships with her kids after the meth addiction is over, what happened to kyle, how the kids are all in one house, bryce, and so on. thank you for reading .

I love your books. i think you should do a movie about crank and glass because so many teens do drugs and they dont see how bad it ruins their lives or the people around them. I think this would make everyone think

Ellen,
You must know that your words have impacted my life SO greatly, because of your books, and the real-life situations,
I know how to overcome conflicts. I finished reading 'Tricks' literally, just now.
And it moved me. I'd give anything to see these books turned into movies, I'd watch them on repeat,
Pinky Promise.
To sum up this lenghty comment,
I'd simply like to say thank you.
For everything.
I wish the best for you and your families,
and if I ever make something of my writing, you're the first person I want to give a copy to.
You've been such an incredible inspiration,
and I don't just say that.
Between you, and Tyra Banks, I owe so much. Keep up the good work (:
Thank you,
For everything,
Chelsea.

Dear Helen, I have to admit. I Have experimented with weed and a few other drugs but nothing like meth. While I was reading your book Crank, I almost wanted to try it. I was pleased with your description of the high that your main character got. As soon as I got to the part where se was raped though, I immediately realized how horrible this drug really is. I can't imagine how hard it was for you to have to go through that pain let alone see your daughter get so messed up so fast. Thank you for this book because it really did open my eyes(: Keep writing please!

I just want to say that I used to HATE the young adult section before I came across youre books! Your books are truly amazing! I was so sick of the fairy tale happy endings and stories about nothing that other authors who write for young adults write about. You really are a talented author. I feel like you can get into the heads of teens in a great way that allows you to connect and tell the story in a unique way! You have a great gift and are a million times better than ANY other author that writes stories with teens in them. You tell things in such a realistic and cutting edge way. I do not feel like you are an adult telling a story when you write I feel like I am really in the head of the characters and it's amazing! keep on writing! youve got an amazing gift to share and enrich the world!

Mrs. Hopkins, I have read all of your books. You are my second favorite author. You write so uniquely. My sister used to do coke and heroine, somehow she avoided meth, the monster. Her addiction did not become as big a problem as did for your daughter, but it was still a problem. Thank you for writing, and I look forward to your new releases next year. Reading your books on my new kindle is fabulous. Hope you and all the grandkids are having a good holiday.

I never quite enjoyed reading untill I picked up Crank. That was the day when I realized books can be enjoyable. I must say my favorite book is Burned. I could not put this book down. I never thought that as a gift I would ask for a book but recently for Christmas I was so delighted to see that I had gotten Fallout. Im currently reading it and felt courise to see if you had an explination of the book and was glad to see you had a family tree. Thank you for sharing your stories and bringing this love of reading onto other people. Keep up the great books.

I just wanted to say that i love crank and glass, i am currently reading fallout, which so far is good. I now and then wonder how alike your life is to these books. Sometimes i wonder what "Kristina" and her children look like. In the beginning of crank it says that it is "loosely" related to your lives, but how much of it is the real deal? Did Kristina really get raped?

Either way i love these books. As soon as i'm done reading fallout, i will try reading tricks again. (All the different POV's confuse me.)

Thank you for everything you have ever written. I got Fallout for Christmas and just finished reading it. Incredible. I was SO excited to come to your site and find that you are writing more books. I do not know what I would do if you weren't. I love your books!

I just finished Fallout. I've read all of your books and I love them all, but the Crank story really hits home with me. My mother was addicted to drugs and abandoned my younger sister and I when I was fifteen and my sister was only 7. I just want you to know that reading your books has given me some peace about it. For a long time I didn't really understand her addiction and I believe that your books helped me. Fallout was amazing, I saw little pieces of myself in each of the characters. You really gave kids like us a voice and I want to thank you for that. I really appreciate all your work.-Emily

Ellen Hopkins,
Over the past three years you have not only become my favorite author, but a hero to me. I admire your poetry and what you have written. Although I am a poet myself, I could never dream of doing with mine what you do with yours. You actually alter the lives of your readers just by words. I have smiled, laughed, cried, cursed, and felt almost every emotion reading your novels. I own all but two and have read all of them, they always make me think. Even when I reread one, I see it in a new light, a new perspective. I'd love, and be amazed, if you had an appearance near my hometown. I only wish to let you know how you've changed my point of view on life.
I do not know if you will reply to this, or even read it, but I want to thank you.

Thank you very much for your work. I am a child of a former meth addict and I could relate to Hunter, and all of your characters in so many situations. Crank, Glass, and Fallout are needed in this day and time, and I want to thank you for stepping up to the plate to write about somthing we don't always want to hear but needs to be said. Thank you Ellen, Hunter and Kristina for allowing us a small piece of your world. My prayers are with you all!!

Thank you for "Crank", "Glass" and "Fallout". I have a daughter who has been addicted to "drugs" for about 5 years now. (Not meth that I know of). She has lost everything and I have her children, she lives on the street most of the time. Your books gave me a little peek in to her life and her mind. I plan on reading more of your books.

Mrs. Hopkins,

You have changed my life. Your YA verse books have made my life bearable, imaginative, and better all around. Your style of writing is the most creative I have seen by far in my and you write with such feeling. Awaiting the release of your books time and time again has given me hope, something to look forward to. I can read your books over and over again, and every single time I do I am hit the same way as I was the first time, I experience the same emotional drain because I get so involved with the characters, no matter how well I know them. I connect so well with your books, and you made me realize that I am not alone in this shit-hole of a world, and that I can indeed do anything I want to.

On a darker note, you were the first person to open my eyes to the hell of trying to break free of an addiction. Through my stint with self-injury, and the year I have been recovered, your stories have kept me grounded and knowing that it takes work to recover, and that it can be done. Every single one of your books has given me so much hope in my life, and I am indebted to you for it.

Thank you for making my life clearer, sharper, better, and more hopeful,

Hailey Burns

Hi Ms. Hopkins. I love your books. Your such an inspriation to me. i connected the most with Impluse. Vanessa's story was the most relatable. My grandmother had BPD and depression. As does my other Grandmother (depression). My Therapist says i may have BPD since one of my grandmothers did (she O.D. in december of 2009. we dont know if it was accidental or not, we're thinking suicide)I most likely have depression if not i will since both sides of my fsmily carry. as well as drug use and alcholics. i dont wanna turn out like them. my cousin thats a total junkie and alcholic turned up at my door, i started crying. im so scared to turn out like him the rest of my family.
